Senior Payroll & Accounting Specialist

Are you detail-oriented, analytical, and passionate about financial accuracy? We are looking for a Senior Payroll & Accounting Specialist to play a key role in ensuring the accuracy, compliance, and continuous improvement of our payroll and accounting processes.
Responsibilities:
1. Payroll Ownership & Processing
Oversee and execute end-to-end payroll processing, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
Review payroll data including salaries, overtime, commissions, and deductions
Ensure all payroll changes (new hires, mutations, terminations) are processed accurately
Act as the main point of contact for payroll-related matters and escalations
2. Payroll Accounting & Reconciliation
Perform and review monthly payroll reconciliations
Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts (e.g., salaries payable, benefits, accruals)
Prepare and review payroll journal entries
Ensure alignment between payroll data and the general ledger
3. Compliance & Regulatory Oversight
Ensure compliance with labor laws, tax regulations, and CAO requirements
Maintain accurate and auditable payroll records
Liaise with external institutions (e.g., SVB, pension funds, labor authorities)
Support and lead payroll-related audits
4. Financial Reporting & Analysis
Prepare and analyze payroll reports, including costs and variances
Support month-end and year-end closing processes
Provide payroll data for budgeting and forecasting
Identify trends, discrepancies, and financial risks
5. Benefits & Employee Cost Management
Oversee and reconcile payroll-related benefits (pension, insurance, etc.)
Ensure accurate calculation of employee entitlements and deductions
Monitor the financial impact of leave balances, overtime, and commissions
6. Process Improvement & Internal Controls
Strengthen payroll processes and internal controls
Identify opportunities for automation and efficiency
Support system enhancements and best practices
Key Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience:
3–5 years of experience in payroll and/or accounting
Strong experience with payroll reconciliations, financial controls, and reporting
Experience within an Accounting or Finance function preferred
Experience with Payroll Pro and/or HRM is an advantage
Languages: English, Spanish, Dutch, and Papiamento
Key Skills:
Strong accounting and analytical skills
High attention to detail and accuracy
Solid understanding of payroll processes, compliance, and financial controls
Advanced Excel skills (reconciliations, data analysis)
Strong problem-solving and organizational skills
Ability to work independently and take ownership
High level of integrity and confidentiality
